Inside Samsung and OPTAGE’s plans to build a private 5G network in Japan

Samsung and OPTAGE have partnered to power a real-time video monitoring system at a plant facility.

Samsung Electronics has announced a collaboration with OPTAGE Inc., a Japanese service provider, to implement a dedicated private 5G network and deploy a real-time video monitoring system at a plant facility.

This private 5G network will support 4K Ultra HD-based live-streaming videos transmitted from multiple devices, including cameras located throughout the plant. The video is transmitted to a remote maintenance system, which will be used to conduct site inspections from a control centre. This will eliminate the need for technician visits to inaccessible locations and allow early detection of failures, improving productivity, efficiency and safety at the facility.

Samsung’s industry-leading 5G solutions will offer a resilient backbone for the plant’s private network. The company will provide its end-to-end 5G solutions—including its latest radios, baseband unit and Compact Core. Samsung’s cloud-native and fully containerised Compact Core is built to provide enterprises an advanced 5G core solution, which can run on single server hardware and is ideal for deployment environments with limited resources and footprints.

Samsung is proud to leverage our private 5G network solutions to provide a solid foundation for new 5G use cases and services, boosting productivity and safety for various enterprises,” said Satoshi Iwao, Vice President and Head of Network Division at Samsung Electronics Japan. “We believe that private 5G networks have immense potential and are ready-made to transform the enterprise landscape. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with OPTAGE to support its private 5G network expansion in Japan.”
