Veeam’s Gil Vega awarded 2021 CISO of the Year

Veeam’s CISO Gil Vega has been awarded 2021 Chief Information Security Officer of the Year.

In a year where cybersecurity has taken centre stage, our very own Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) Gil Vega has been recognized as a top security leader. As a part of the WashingtonExec Chief Officer Awards, he was named 2021 Chief Information Security Officer of the Year.

Gil has played a pivotal role in leading the overall vision for security-related resources, advancing data governance and compliance strategies, and extending federal government data protection practices.

We’ve all seen the impact of ransomware grabbing headlines or even affecting our personal lives this year. Data loss is impacting our school systems, critical infrastructure and even government agencies and departments. Serving the federal government means a lot to us at Veeam and is personally important to Gil, who has a deep background leading public sector cybersecurity efforts at agencies like the Department of Energy and Department of Homeland Security and within the Department of Defense (DOD) and the Intelligence Community.

Gil understands the challenges federal IT and cybersecurity leaders face through his own experiences. His work has enabled national security organizations and DOD components to quickly restore more than a petabyte of data so they could continue mission-critical functions.
