NEOWAVE launches new contact smart card reader, Linkeo-Y

NEOWAVE, a strong authentication and secure transactions specialist, has launched Linkeo-Y, a new contact smart card reader that can be used in any office or remote environment requiring a high level of security.

The Linkeo-Y comes in two versions, the LinkeoA-Y suitable for USB-A ports and LinkeoC-Y suitable for USB-C ports. The Linkeo is easy to implement and comes as a “plug and play” solution with no software or drivers required to install. For added security, the Linkeo-Y is compatible with FIDO2 authentication-enabled cards, such as NEOWAVE’s Badgeo FIDO2.

Thanks to its PC/SC CCID compatibility, the Linkeo-Y reader enables the use of smart card applications in complete security from home or via a smartphone (e.g.: online administrative procedures, health, transport). In the professional environment, it is ideal for organisations requiring a high level of security (e.g.: strong authentication, electronic signatures, management of logical access).

The Société des Transports de Montréal (STM), a public transport company in Canada, is one of the first to deploy the LinkeoA-Y on a very large scale. The public using its transit services can now top up their transport tickets from the comfort of their homes.

Open Seas, a UK-based enterprise IT solutions company specialising in cyber security and data protection, is the official UK distribution partner for NEOWAVE.

Jason Kent, Director at Open Seas, said: “The number of cyber attacks are on the rise. Microsoft recently reported that bad actors are making almost 1,000 attempts every single second to break account passwords. A way to minimise the threat of cyber attacks is to use strong authentication solutions with a physical element. This is where authentication solutions, such as the Linkeo come in.”

Bruno Bernard, President at NEOWAVE, said: “It is estimated that there are already between 30-50 billion smart cards in circulation at the moment. We expect this number to keep growing over the years but at the same time we have to keep innovating and producing solutions that are modern, easy-to-use and, most importantly, secure. The LinkeoA-Y reader has already proven itself to our customers. Specifically, STM in Canada has successfully implemented the product and now its employees and customers are benefiting from a modern and secure solution.”

The news follows NEOWAVE’s recent launch of its Holdeo bluetooth connected card reader and the Winkeo-C FIDO2 security key. The Winkeo-C key enables strong and multi-factor authentication with online services and applications from fixed and mobile terminals.
